Notion AI Agents Can Now Work on a Task for 24 Hours
Notion's AI agents now run for 24 hours instead of five minutes, and cost far less to use.

Quick Summary
- Notion rebuilt its AI agents so a single task can now run for more than 24 hours, up from about five minutes before.
- A new model router called Auto matches top AI models at about 90 percent lower average cost across more than 20 common tasks.
- Business and Enterprise seats get 1,500 Standard credits and 500 Select credits a month under Notion's new credit system.
- OpenAI brought interactive charts and tools to ChatGPT with GPT-6, and separately said its AI helped patch a critical security flaw before attackers found it.
Notion rebuilt its AI agents on 19 October 2026: a single agent can now work on one task for more than 24 hours, up from about five minutes, while a smarter model router cuts the average cost by roughly 90 percent, according to Notion's own announcement.
What did Notion announce?
Notion, the workspace app many small teams already use for wikis, project trackers and client databases, rebuilt its AI agent system for the sixth time. Co-founder Akshay Kothari announced on the company blog that Notion Agent and Custom Agents now run on new infrastructure built for longer, harder jobs, cleaning up a messy database, researching a long list of prospects, or working through a backlog, instead of you breaking the task into small pieces yourself.
To support long-running threads in a way that wouldn't blow through credits, we knew we needed to pair them with significant efficiency gains.from Shir, Head of AI and Core Product, Notion (Notion blog, 19 October 2026)
What can it actually do?
- Agents now run on a dedicated service that keeps working through restarts, so one task can run for more than 24 hours instead of about five minutes.
- A new model router called Auto reads each task and sends it to the model that best balances quality, speed and cost, matching top models at about 90 percent lower average cost across more than 20 common tasks.
- Agents get their own computer and browser, so they can write and run short scripts instead of doing every step through the AI model, which Notion says is faster and more accurate.
- A new Review for me mode uses a separate model to check whether an action is safe before the agent takes it.
- Notion MCP, its connector for outside AI tools, now syncs memory, so agents like ChatGPT or Claude can use Notion as a shared source of context.
How could your business use it?
Picture a clinic that wants an agent to clean up its patient contact list overnight, or a retailer that wants an agent to research a list of 200 potential suppliers while the team sleeps. Before this update, a Notion agent could only handle a few minutes of work before it needed a nudge; now it can work through the whole job in one run and hand back a finished result in the morning. Leaving the model choice on Auto, Notion's default setting, is the easiest way to get the lower cost without picking a model yourself for every task.
Also today
- OpenAI rolled out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI to ChatGPT, letting it answer with interactive charts, forms and small tools instead of plain text, starting with paid plans on 7 October 2026 and free plans the next day (OpenAI).
- OpenAI said its AI found and helped fix a critical security flaw in PHP, the code behind a large share of the world's websites, before attackers could exploit it, through its Patch the Planet initiative (OpenAI, 21 October 2026).
What to do this week
If your team already runs project trackers or client databases in Notion, open the agent settings and check that it is set to Auto rather than a model you picked by hand; that alone captures most of the cost saving. If you are still deciding which AI tools are actually worth your team's time, that is exactly the kind of practical, hands-on comparison we work through in the AI Tool Mastery for Work Productivity classes in Kota Kinabalu, where we test tools like this live instead of just talking about them.
Common Questions
- What changed in Notion's AI agents on 19 October 2026?

- How much does Notion AI cost for a business?
- Business and Enterprise seats get 1,500 Standard credits and 500 Select credits a month at no extra charge beyond the seat price, and Notion says most users are unlikely to run out of credits now that the Auto router stretches each credit about ten times further.
- Can a small business in Malaysia use Notion's new AI agents?
- Yes. Notion AI agents and the Auto model router work on any Business or Enterprise workspace worldwide, Malaysia included, with no separate regional rollout needed. You simply switch the agent setting to Auto in your workspace to start using the longer running, lower cost agents.
